Carbon Corp’s Award Winning Technology
Problem
Climate Change is on the verge of causing a planetary extinction event. We regularly experience the catastrophic consequences of climate change including hurricanes, droughts, economic disruption, global warming, and species extinction. Atmosphere greenhouse gas CO2 concentration is building at a rapid rate.
Solution
Carbon Corp solves the problem of global warming by its proprietary technology transforming the greenhouse gas CO2 into a valuable commodity carbon nanotubes or “CNTs” by high-yield electrolysis in molten salts. The only reactant CO2 is a no-cost resource and is available in massive quantities (fossil fuel power plants alone emit over 1.9 gigatonnes of CO2 annually). Currently, CNTs cost over $100k per ton. Carbon Corp provides a disruptive product (CNTs priced an order of magnitude lower), a massive market as a lighter and stronger replacement to steel and aluminum, and a disruptive service (value added carbon dioxide mitigation).
Carbon Corp, who relocated from the USA to Calgary, transforms CO2 into carbon nanotubes, with applications such as lightweight, ultra-strong and cost-effective replacements for metals; stronger cement-composite building materials; and expanding applications in industrial catalysis, batteries, and nano-electronics.
You should know…
The Genesis Device™ technology is a proprietary, revolutionary technology introduced in 2015 by Carbon. Carbon Corp’s technology is delineated in our peer-reviewed technical publications and described in international media including the descriptions in the BBC, Forbes and Science. Genesis uniquely directly removes and eliminates the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide from the atmosphere or from power plants, industrial processes, transportation and CO2 domestic sources. Instead of emitting carbon dioxide, Capital Power inexpensively produces carbon nanotubes (CNTs), carbon nano-onions (CNOs), or graphene, or ultra-strong carbon structural materials. With Genesis CO2 is intercepted directly from the atmosphere, or from flue stacks, without the need to concentrate the CO2, and split by electrolysis into O2 at the anode and into high value CNTs, formed by transition metal nucleation sites, at the cathode.
In addition to a wide range of carbon nanotubes, Carbon Corp also makes other carbon nano materials such as graphene and carbon nano-onions from CO2, as described in the most prestigious chemistry journal here.
A peer reviewed study released in Materials Today Sustainability (“Amplified CO2 reduction of greenhouse gas emissions with C2CNT carbon nanotube composites”) provides a several hundred-fold advance in stopping the release of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide.
This ground-breaking advance utilizes CO2 in producing carbon nanotubes which when, added to materials such as concrete or steel, forms far stronger composites. This is achieved at a fraction of the current cost of manufacturing carbon nanotubes and results in a cost of carbon savings in the materials production dramatically below the current cost of carbon mitigation. The study is by the C2CNT team that previously demonstrated a process to transform CO2 to Carbon Nanotubes (C2CNT). The C2CNT team is a Finalist in the Carbon XPrize international competition (CarbonXPrize.org, team website C2CNT) to produce the most valuable product from the CO2 in flue gas.

Prof. Stuart Licht report a process for the high-yield, low-energy synthesis of carbon nano-onions (CNOs) by electrolysis of CO2 in molten carbonate. CNOs consist of nested concentric nested buckyballs, and have a range of remarkable applications. CNOs are currently valued at more than $1 million per ton. The researchers estimate the \ cost of the new chemistry of CNO production … to be $1,000 per ton. “Rather than carbon taxes or extended debates on the necessary international path to combat global warming, transforming the greenhouse carbon dioxide to a valuable product incentivizes its “mining” and removal, either from industrial flue gas or directly from the air.” – Prof. Licht
Led by Dr. Stuart Licht researchers have demonstrated the first facile high-yield, low-energy synthesis of macroscopic length carbon nanotubes (CNTs)—carbon nanotube wool—from CO2 using molten carbonate electrolysis. The resulting CNT wool is of length suitable for weaving into carbon composites and textiles and is highly conductive. A paper on the work is published in the journal Materials Today Energy.
“Scientists have found a way to create carbon nanofibers, one of the strongest materials on earth, using nothing but the carbon dioxide we breathe out.”
“Previously carbon nanofibers were made by expensive processes such as chemical vapor deposition or polymer pulling & could not be made from CO2. C2CNT … directly converts CO2 at high rate, to CNTs using low cost. “
For decades now, scientists have been sounding the alarm about increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the role it plays in climate change, but the world has been largely unsuccessful at reducing the amount of CO2 floating around above our heads. Stuart Licht of George Washington University wants to convert a large portion of the greenhouse gas into a raw material to make things like aircraft, race cars, sports equipment and even wind turbines.
